QVHHL Update - November 22nd, 2021

We have completed two weekends of play...this past Friday evening there was one game on the slate. The Grenfell Spitfires scored twice in the first period, a power play goal from Sanford King and a goal from Allen Kilback and held on for a 3-1 victory over Odessa/Vibank Bruins. Sanfred would score his second goal of the evening in the second period and the Bruins would score late in the third period on a goal from Logan Herchak to nullify the shutout. Mitch Kilgore picked up the win in the Grenfell net and Shane Bloomquist was in net for Odessa/Vibank. Lots of penalties...Grenfell had 7 minor penalties, 2 major penalties, 1 misconduct and 2 game misconducts. Odessa/Vibank had 8 minor penalties, 1 major penalty, 2 misconducts and 1 game misconduct. Harrison Ruopp received a one game suspension and Tyson Newell received a 3 game suspension for the Spitfires. Keigan Callender received a 1 game suspension for the Bruins.
On Saturday night we had three games. The Balcarres Broncs played their first game of the year in Bethune. The score was tied 1-1 after one with Dawson Hein scoring first for the Bulldogs and Jared Martin with the shorthanded goal late in the period for the Broncs. In the second period Jaxon Tait scored a power play goal early to put the Broncs up by one but Jonas Thomson would respoind for the Bulldogs to tie things up with a power play goal. Halfway through the period the Broncs would score twice within 1:40 with goals from Cory Unser and Cory Kosloski to go up by two. Cam Reich would then score a power play goal and it was 4-3 Broncs going into the third period. In the third, Jaxon Tait would score his second goal of the game and then Tyler Bell would score on the power play and that would make the final score 6-3 Broncs. Dean Brothen would pick up the win in net for the Broncs and Duncan Paddock was in net for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs had 5 minor penalties, 1 double minor, 2 misconducts and a game misconduct. The Broncs had 6 minor penalties, one double minor and a misconduct.
The Lumsden Monarchs would travel to Grenfell for their second game of the year against the Spitfires. The Monarchs got off to a good start 2 goals from Kyle Johnson and Kale Haylock would score the lone Grenfell goal in the first period and it was 2-1 Monartchs going into the second period. Power play goals from Haylock and by Jayden Issac along with a goal from Justin Hollinger would put the Spitfires up 4-2 going into the third period. In the third Kyle Johnson would complete the hat trick on the power play early and the Monarchs were within one. Justin Hollinger would score to restore the two goal lead for Grenfell and then Hollinger would score on the power play to complete his hat trick. Sanfred King would score to finish the scoring and the Spitfires would win 7-3. Mitch Kilgore picked up his second win of the season in net for Grenfell and Dawson McCauley was in net for the Monarchs. The Monarchs had 5 minor penalties, a major and a game misconduct. The Spitfires had 3 minor penalties, a major and a game misconduct. Craig Karius from Grenfdell and Tanner McKecknie from Lumsden each receive a one game suspension for a GM in the last 10 minutes.
The Milestone Flyers opened up their season on Saturday evening at home with a 7-6 overtime victory over the Odessa/Vibank Bruins. Nathan Murray with a goal and Logan Herchak with a power play goal would put the Bruins up 2-0 in the first. Logan Gorsalitz would then score for the Flyerrs and it was 2-1 Bruins going into the seond period. Brayden Cockwill with a goal and Austin Yano with a power play goal would put the Flyers up 3-2 going into the third period. In the third period the Bruins would score 3 times in the first nine minutes to take the lead 5-3. Eamon Milligan, Linden Lang and then Marshall Wilton were the goal scorers. Nathan Deck would then score to get the Flyers within one and then Shelby Gray would score to tie the game up with just under seven minutes to go. A miunute later Kyle Stroh would score for the Bruins to put them back up. Just over a minute later Nathan Deck would score his second goal of the evening and this game was tied and going to overtime. Just 37 seconds into overtime Eric Bollefer scored for the Flyers and it made the final 7-6. Riley Ross picked up the win in the Milestomne net and Garrett Bloomquist was in the Odessa/Vibank net. Milestone had 7 minor penalties and a misconduct. Odessa/Vibank had 7 minor penalties.
We had one game on Sunday evening as the Flyrers hosted for the second night in a row with Balcarres providing the oppostion for this game. There was no scoring in the first two periods of this game. Early in the third period Tyler Mueller would socre on the power play and then quickly Justin Bernhardt would score and the Broncs had a 2-0 lead. Nathan Deck would then score with just under 12 minutes left in the period to get the Flyers to within one but 13 seconds later Holden Cronin would score to restore the two goal lead. Shelby Gray would score with just under two minutes to play to get Milestone back to within one but an empty net goal from Justin Bernhardt would make the final in this game 5-3 for the Broncs. David Spooner picked up the win in the Balcarres net and Thomas Spence was in the Milestone net. Milestone had 6 minor penalties and a misconduct. Balcarres had 9 minor penalties.
This Friday evening the Flyers (1-1-0) will be in Southey to play the Marlins (1-0-0 at 8:00 p.m. The Lumsden Monarchs (1-1-0) travel to Odessa/Vibank to play the Bruins (1-1-1) at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday evening the Monarchs host the Southey Marlins at 8:30 p.m., Odessa/Vibank is in Balcarres to play the Broncs (2-0-0) at 8:00 p.m. and the Bethune Bulldogs (0-3-0) are in Milestone to play the Flyers (1-1-0) at 8:00 p.m.
