Rockets with OT win in Raymore and Monarchs with OT win in Lumsden head for game three in Robert Schultz Cup Final Friday at 8:00 p.m. in Raymore. On Sunday afternoon in Raymore, Josh Jordan scored 3:37 into overtime to give the hometown Rockets a 7-6 victory over the Lumsden Monarchs. The Monarchs scored the only goal of the first period off the stick of Liam Brennan. The Monarchs would get goals from Kyle Johnson and Brody Luhning to take a 3-0 lead in the second before Ryley Storzuk would get the Rockets on the board with a shorthanded goal. Brady Aulie would score to give the Monarchs their three goal lead again but the Rockets would score twice in the last four minutes of period. Tyrell Shulko would score on the power play and then Braden Bentz would score and it was 4-3 going into the third period. Brady Aulie would score early in the third to give the Monarchs a 5-3 lead but just 20 seconds later Corey Kosloski would score to get the Rockets within one. Two minutes after that goal Kosloski would score again on the power play and the game was tied. With just under seven minutes left in the period the Rockets would get their first lead of the game when Michael Jordan scored. Lumsden would tie the game with just under four minutes left on a goal from Andrew Perrault. Josh Jordan would score on the power play in overtime to make the final 7-6 Rockets. Dean Brothen picked up the win in the Raymore net and Will Hood was in the Lumsden net. Raymore had three minor penalties and Lumsden had four.
Game two was played on Tuesday evening in Lumsden. The table was turned in this game as the goaltenders were stopping most everything coming at them. There were two goals scored late in the first period and they would be the only goals in regulation time. Jessie Matlock scored for the Monarchs and then Ryley Storzuk would score for the Rockets. After regulation play the Monarchs had outshout the Rockets 47-25. Brady Aulie would score his third goal of the series 54 seconds into overtime and the Monarchs would pull out a 2-1 victory . Each team was 0/2 on the powerplay. Will Hood picked up the win in the Lumsden net and Dean Brothen was in the Raymore net. Both played very well in this game. The game was great to watch...we don't usually get hockey like this on a cold Tuesday evening in November! Game three of this series will be in Raymore on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. Game four will be in Lumsden Saturday evening at 8:30 p.m. If a fifth and deciding game is required it will be played next Monday evening in Raymore.
In Provincial play...Congratulations to the Southey Marlins who came back in their series against Balgonie with a 6-3 victory in Southey Saturday evening and another 6-3 victory in Balgonie Sunday evening to win the Provincial 'A' series 2 games to 1. The Marlins will now play the Lumsden Monarchs in the "South" final. Game one of this series is in Southey on Thursday, March 12th at 8:30 p.m. Game two of this series is on Saturday, March 14th in Lumsden at 8:30 p.m. If a game three is required in this series it will be played on Monday, March 16th in Southey at 8:00 p.m.
Please get out to a game near you....best time of the year!
