Monarchs take 2-0 lead in HHL Final

The Lumsden Monarchs defeated the Raymore Rockets 6-2 on Saturday evening in Lumsden to take a 2-0 lead in the Robert Schultz Cup final. The Monarchs used the power play to score the only two goals of the first period with Brody Luhning and Braeden Adamyk both scoring. In the second period Torey Lindsay scored a power play goal to put the Monarchs up 3-0. With three minutes left in the second period Raymore goalie Dean Brothen left the game with an injury after facing 25 shots. Preston Eckel came in for Raymore playing in his first HHL game and finished the game allowing two goals on 13 shots. Jade Hine, Carter Hanson and Torrey Lindsay with an empty net goal also scored for Lumsden. Tyrell Shulko and Blaze Bentz with a power play goal scored for Raymore. Travis Bosch was in net for Lumsden and stopped 28 shots to go 5-0 in the playoffs. Lumsden was 3 for 5 on the power play and Raymore was 1 for 6. Owen Schnell from Lumsden and Kyle Schmalenberg from Raymore both left the game with injuries. Game three of this series is at 5:00 p.m. in Lumsden on Sunday.
