We had five games this past weekend. On Friday evening the Strasbourg Maroons were in Raymore and lost 6-4 to the Rockets. Cody Mapes led the way with a pair of goals. Cole Boychuk, Blaze Bentz, Michael Jordan with a shorthanded goal and Tyrell Shulko with the only power play goal of the game and also was the winning goal also scored for the Rockets. Tucker Slough, Tyson Orban, Sean Delwo and Bryton Beattie scored for the Maroons. Each team had four power play opportunities. Dean Brothen picked up the win in net for the Rockets and Dallin Sorenson was in net for the Maroons. Also on Friday evening there was offensive delight in Southey as the Bethune Bulldogs and Southey Marlins put 16 goals on the scoresheet and after overtime and seven rounds of a shootout the Southey Marlins picked up their first win of the year 9-8. The Marlins scored twice in the first period and five times in the second period to take a 7-4 lead over the Bulldogs going into the third period. Mike Reich and Joel Kot would score in the third to get the Bulldogs to within one and then Kyler Nameth would score for the Marlins to get back to a two goal lead for the Marlins. This would be Nameth's first goal in the HHL. Mike Reich would then score for the Bulldogs and then with just over four minutes left in the period Dustin MacAngus would score on the power play to tie the game and send it into overtime. Carter Budzak would supply the winning goal in the shoot out for the Marlins. Trey Levebrve would lead the way for the Marlins with a shorthanded goal and a power play goal. Also scoring for the Marlins were Riley Mohr, Carter Budzak, Pat Thompson-Gale, Travis Mohr and Brennan Kosloski. The Bulldogs were led by Lucas Ulmer who had two goals and four assists. Also scoring twice was Mike Reich. Russ Nielson with a power play goal, Mark Lustig also scored for the Bulldogs. Bethune was three for four on the power play and Southey was one for three. David Perkin picks up the win in net for the Marlins and Curtis Koskie was in net for the Bulldogs.
These two teams had a rematch in the Bethune home opener on Saturday evening. Three goals from Mark Lustig and three goals from Micke Reich powered the Bulldogs to a 7-2 victory. Brock Appleyard also scored for Bethune. Two of Lustig's goals were on the power play. Pat Thompson-Gale and Evan Meyers scored for the Marlins. Ryan Seibel picked up the win in net for the Bulldogs and Adam Gawryluik was in net for the Marlins. In Raymore the first place Monarchs defeated the Rockets 6-2. There were six different scorers for the Monarchs. Josh Beaudry, Liam Brennan, Brody Luhning with the game winner, Carter Hanson, Braeden Raiwet with a power play goal and Owen Schnell scored the Lumsden goals. Emery Anderson with a short handed goal and Cody Mapes scored for the Rockets. Raymore was zero for seven on the power play and Lumsden was one for five. Travis Bosch returned to familiar ice and picked up the win with 33 saves for the Monarchs and Dean Brothen was in net for the Rockets stopping 24 shots. Our final game of the weekend was in Cupar. The Canucks defeated the Strasbourg Maroons 5-2. There were five different scorers for the Canucks. Kyle Hall, Mathew Scott, David Brown, Vaughn Woolsey and Brayden Frank with the game winner scored for Cupar. Jory Miller with a power play goal and Bryton Beattie scored for the Maroons. Tanner Kehler picked up the win in net for the Canucks and Rhett Freistadt was in net for the Maroons.
Lucas Ulmer from the Bulldogs now leads the scoring race with 15 points. Teammates Mike Reich with 11 points and Russ Nielson and Mark Lustig with 8 points are right behind Ulmer. Tyrell Shulko from the Rockets is fifth with seven points. Tanner Kehler from the Canucks leads all goalies with two wins and a 1.92 GAA. Travis Bosch from the Monarchs has two wins and a 2.00 GAA. Ryan Seibel has one win and a 2.00 GAA. The Monarchs tandem of Travis Bosch and Will Hood have the early lead for the Gunnar Lindal team goaltending trophy with a 2.00 GAA team goaltending average. Our top power play unit are the Bethune Bulldogs who are at a 42.9% success rate. The top penalty killing unit belongs to the Lumsden Monarchs at 93.3%.
This weekend we have two games on Friday. The first place Lumsden Monarchs (3-0-0) host the fourth place Cupar Canucks (2-1-0) at 8:30 p.m. Tied for second place, the Raymore Rockets (2-1-0) are in Strasbourg to play the Maroons (0-3-0) at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday evening the second place Bethune Bulldogs (2-1-1) host the Lumsden Monarchs, the Southey Marlins (1-2-0) host the Strasbourg Maroons and the Raymore Rockets are in Cupar to play the Canucks. All of the Saturday games are at 8:00 p.m.
