Our 53rd Season starts Friday evening!
Submitted by Gerry on Wed, 11/07/2018 - 17:52
The Highway Hockey League begins another year of senior hockey on Friday evening with two games. The Bethune Bulldogs will be in Lumsden to play the Monarchsand the Cupar Canucks will visit the Raymore Rockets. Both games begin at 8:00 p.m. I don't have the first rosters in hand but I know there are a lot of changes this year and we will advise them as the season starts.
We are happy to announce that we will have pocket schedules again this year and they will be in the rinks in the next week. Thank you to Holmes Polled Herefords for their sponsorship this year. This is a tradition in our league and we made a mistake by not having pocket schedules last year...like a good politician...we heard the reaction and fixed the problem.
We are back to a twenty game schedule this year. With six teams we continue to have a bye for the top two teams going into playoofs. the other four teams play a best of three with the two winners advancing to the semi-finals against the bye teams. They play a best of five series and the League Final for the Robert Schultz Cup is a best of five series.
Our overtime is 4 on 4 for 5 minutes. Shootouts happen if game is still tied with the home team dictating who goes first.
We will be renaming our League MVP trophy this year and there will be information coming on this refurbished 50 year old trophy.
