Rockets and Bulldogs on to Provincial Finals...The Raymore Rockets defeated the Whitewood Orioles 5-3 on Sunday evening in Raymore to advance to the 2017 Provincial ‘C’ championship against the Delisle Bruins of the Sask Valley Hockey League. On Saturday evening in Lumsden the Bethune Bulldogs defeated the Lumsden Monarchs 6-2 to advance to the Provincial ‘A’ Championship. The Bulldogs will defend their 2016 title against the Wilkie Outlaws of the Sask West Hockey League. The Monarchs outshot the Bulldogs in the first ten minutes of this game but the second ten minutes of the first frame saw the Bulldogs outshoot the Monarchs 16-2 and score three goals. Kyle Ross scored a shorthanded goal, Joel Kot scored a power play goal and Jacob Ulmer scored late in the period to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead going into the second period. There was no scoring in the second period and shots were 9 -4 for the Bulldogs. In the third period Tyler Penny scored twice for the Monarchs. The Bulldogs would get goals from Mike Reich, Brock Appleyard and Drew George. Ryan Holfeld stopped 33 shots to pick up the win in net. Matt Weninger stopped 31 shots in the Lumsden net. This is the third year in a row the Bulldogs have reached the Provincial ‘A’ final. Bethune opens up against Wilkie this Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. in Bethune. Game two is Friday, March 24th in Wilkie. The Raymore Rockets open their final in Delisle this Friday at 8:30 p.m. in Delisle. Game two is in Raymore on Friday, March 24th at 8:30 in Raymore.
Bethune wins Game One of HHL Final…The Bethune Bulldogs won the first game of the League Final last Thursday evening in Bethune posting a 6-0 victory over the Lumsden Monarchs. Russ Neilson had two goals, including a power play marker, to lead the Bulldogs. Kyle Ross, Matt Delahey, Mark Lustig and Joel Kot also scored for Bethune. Bethune was assessed six minor penalties and Lumsden had four minor penalties. Ryan Holfeld picked up the shut out in net for the Bulldogs stopping 28 shots. Matt Weninger stopped 37 shots in the Lumsden net. Game two of this series is Tuesday in Lumsden and game three is Thursday in Bethune.
