President's Update - February 19th, 2019

Congratulations to the Raymore Rockets on winning their first round series against the Strasbourg Maroons and moving on to semi-final to face the Bethune Bulldogs. On Monday the Rockets defeated the Maroons 7-3 in Strasbourg. On Tuesday in Raymore the Rockets won game one of the series 4-1. In Strasbourg Dillon Schwartzenberger and Tyrell Shulko scored to give the Rockets a 2-0 lead going into the second period. Bryce Hubick scored for the Maroons early in the second to get the Maroons to within one but goals from Brandon Giroux and Braden Bentz gave the Rockets a 4-1 lead going into the third period. Josh Jordan, Cody Mapes and Shulko with his second goal scored for the Rockets in the third period. Tyson Orban and Dillon Marcotte scored for the Maroons in the third. Dean Brothen stopped 33 shots in the Raymore net and picked up the win and Rhett Freistadt stopped 41 shots in the Strasbourg net. Raymore was assessed four minor penalties and Strasbourg had three. 

The Cupar Canucks and Southey Marlins will play the deciding game three of their series on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in Southey. The Marlins forced a game three with a double overtime win over the Canucks this past Thursday. There was no scoring in this game until the third period and then there were two goals within 36 second of each other as Ryley Storzuk scored for the Marlins and then Brett Boha scored for the Canucks. In the second overtime period Taylor Wilton scored 4:35 in and gave the Marlins the win. David Perkin picked up the win in the Southey net and Colby Miller was in the Cupar net. Cupar had three minor penalties called on them and Southey had two. Of note, we have had four playoff games, very few penalties called and only Cody Hall has a power play goal. The winner of this series plays the first place Lumsden Monarchs.

Congratulations to the Bethune Bulldogs as they defeated the Balcarres Broncs on Saturday evening in Balcarres 5-4 and won their series 2-0. The Bulldogs will now face the defending Provincial 'A' champion Balgonie Bison. Balgonie defeated the Cupar Canucks on Saturday evening to win their series 2-0. Also on Saturday evening the Southey Marlins lost to the Carnduff Red Devils 6-2 in Carnduff and thus lost their Prov. 'B' series 9-6. The Lumsden Monarchs defeated the Grenfell Spitfires in Grenfell on Saturday evening 6-2 and forced a game three in Lumsden on Sunday evening. The game in Lumsden was as close as the series with the Spitfires pulling out a 3-2 victory and advancing to the other south Provincial 'A' semi-final against Milestone.

We have Cupar @ Southey on Thursday evening and the first game of the Provincial 'A' series Bethune @ Balgonie on Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. Semi-final series will be posted later this week.
