President's Update - March 20th, 2019

Our Final is set playing for the Robert Schultz Cup. Lumsden Monarchs defeated the Southey Marlins three straight in the one semi-final. All of the games were close and it was an entertaining series. The Raymore Rockets took our defending champions to five games in the other semi-final and were the only team in this series to win on the road defeating the Bulldogs 2-0 on Sunday in Bethune.

The game on Sunday went scoreless the first two periods. Both goalies made a lot of marvellous saves.."wow' saves and the shots after two periods were 27-18 for Bethune. In the third period Brandon Giroux scored on the power play four minutes into the third period to give the Rockets a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs would take 14 shots in the third period and Dean Brothen would stop them all. An empty net goal from Michael Jordan and the final was 2-0. Ryan Holfeld stopped 26 shots in the Bethune net. The Rockets will now play the first place Lumsden Monarchs in the Robert Schultz Cup.

The Bethune Bulldogs have been our League Champions for the last four seasons. In our first 52 years of existence, the Bulldogs not only were the only team to win our championship four years in a row but also the only team to win three years in a row. We've had many dominant teams in our history but few can argue that this Bulldogs team isn't one of the best senior teams we've ever seen. There is no obituary here, just a solid congratulations to the entire Bethune Bulldogs organization and the players that have been a part of this run over the last four years...just amazing and congratulations.

Our final begins Thursday evening in Raymore at 8:30 p.m. Game two will be in Lumsden on Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. Game three will be in Lumsden Sunday at 5 p.m. If a game four is required it will be played Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. in Raymore and if a game five is required it will be played Thursday the 28th at 8:30 p.m. in Lumsden.

Good luck to both teams and please try and get out to watch this final series.
