President's Update - November 16th, 2014

Saturday, November 22nd....Bethune @ Strasbourg and Avonlea @ Wynyard games have been postponed....we will update make up dates as soon as we get them

President’s Update

Two weekends into the season, seven games played, home teams have won all the games and every team but one has at least one loss. On Friday evening the Lumsden Monarchs won their first game of the year with a 4-1 victory over the Cupar Canucks. The Monarchs held the lead throughout and opened things up in the first period with a shorthanded goal from David Fisher. Shay Wirll would also score in the first period to make it 2-0 for the Monarchs after one period. In the second period Elliot Hubick would score to cut the lead in half for the Canucks. Late in the second period and late in the Monarch’s power play, Kelly English would score to make it 3-1 going into the third period. Denby Haysom would put the game away late in the third period to make the final 4-1. Lumsden had six minor penalties and the Canucks had eight. Kurtis Sollosy picked up the win in net for the Monarchs and Tanner Kehler took the loss for the Canucks. In Wynyard the northern Monarchs won their first game of the year 10-3 over the Raymore Rockets. Wynyard led 2-1 after the first period and 5-2 after the second period.  Matt Strueby (5 points) and Justin Zadoroozniak (1 ppg) led the way with two goals each.  Donovan Hall, Joey MacDonald and Chad Mazurak each had a power play goal. Also scoring for the Monarchs were Brendan Reiss, Eric Popadynec and Riley Storziuk. Lyle Ostapowich picked up three assists in this game.  Jared Adams, Todd MacMurchy and Tyrell Shulko scored for the Rockets.  Each team had six minor penalties. The Rockets had one major penalty. Dave Perkin picked up the win in net for the Monarchs while John Arscott was in net for the Rockets.

On Saturday evening we had three games played and all were tied 2-2 after two periods. In Raymore, the Rockets got their first win of the season with a 6-3 victory over the Bethune Bulldogs.  All of the Rockets goals were even strength goals. Michael Jordan and Tyler Murray and Jared Adams each scored two goals for the Rockets with Murray scoring the winner early in the third period.  Lucas Ulmer picked up a power play goal while Kyle Ross and Shea Van Luven each scored even strength goals. Raymore had five minor penalties and Bethune had eight. Kevin Orthner picked up the win in net for the Rockets while Ryan Seibel was in net for the Bulldogs. In Strasbourg the Maroons defeated the Avonlea Arrows 5-2. Josh Jelinski scored just 21 seconds into the game to give the Arrows a 1-0 lead. Before the end of the period Eric Schultz would score on the power play to notch things up at one. Late in the second period Dillon Hubick would score the Maroon’s second power play goal of the night but just 21 seconds later Kyle Oleniuk would score for the Arrows and we went into the third tied at two. Eric Schultz would score his second goal and the game winner 13 minutes into the third period. Jory Miller and Donovan Thompson would score into the empty net to make the final 5-2. Avonlea took 5 minor penalties and the Maroons had four. Jeremy Ellis picked up the win in net for the Arrows and Kelly Lueck was in net for the Arrows. In Wynyard the northern Monarchs would prevail 5-2 in a penalty filled game against the southern Monarchs. There was no scoring in the first period but Robert Hillier scored in the first minute of the second period to put Wynyard up 1-0. Zak Anderson would then tie things up for Lumsden and in the middle of the period Dale Spelchen would score on the power play to put Wynyard back up. Late in the period David Fisher would score on the power play. And this game was tied at two. The Wynyard Monarchs tool 16 minor penalties and two misconducts while Lumsden took 19 minor penalties. In the third period 17 of those minor penalties were called. It took until 12 minutes into the third period for Matt Strueby to score the game winner for Wynyard. Justin Zadoroozniak would then score on the power play and Donovan Hall would score in the last minute to make the final 5-2 for Wynyard. Dave Perkin picked up his second win of the year in net for Wynyard and Will Hood was in net for Lumsden.

We have two games on Friday evening with Strasbourg (1-0) at Cupar (1-1) and Lumsden (1-2) in Avonlea (0-1). On Saturday evening Cupar will be in Raymore to meet the Rockets (1-1), Bethune (1-1) visits Strasbourg and Avonlea will be in Wynyard to play the Monarchs (2-1).
