Six games this weekend in HHL

Four more teams join into the action this weekend. On Friday evening the Raymore Rockets and Southey Marlins will both play their first game of the season. I haven’t received the starting rosters but do know that there are changes with both of these teams. Raymore is in Wynyard and Southey is in Cupar. The other game sees the Lumsden Monarchs (0-1-0) host the Bethune Bulldogs. All games start at 8 p.m.

On Saturday evening the Strasbourg Maroons and Avonlea Arrows get into their first game. The Maroons will be in Raymore and look to get back to their 2011-12 form. The Avonlea Arrows have a full roster that includes sixteen locals and sixteen returning players. They have been bolstered with the addition of two new goalies….Nathan Fischl from the Raymore Rockets and Colin Munroe from the Rocanville Tigers. The Arrows have also picked up Ryan Cruse from the Rockets. Also returning to the team is Sean Miller who missed the entire last season after knee surgery. Two local players are back after playing hockey in Europe. Mark Ardelan was with Iserlohn Roosters and Scott Arnold was with Nassjo HC. Gone from the team are three players…current Manager Jaret Nelson, Lonny Forrester and perennial all-star goalie Justin Mrazek. The Arrows open up their season at home to the Lumsden Monarchs. Also on Saturday evening the Southey Marlins will be in Raymore. All games begin at 8 pm.

Lumsden took the lead back with five minutes left in the first period on a power play goal from Jesse Matlock. Cupar then scored two goals in the last minute of the period off the stick of Kyle Ross and Shea Van Luven to take a 4-3 lead going into the second period. Bryan McNabb Jr. and Davis Brown would put the Canucks up 6-3 after two periods. In the third period Kyle Ross would score his second goal of the evening and then Russ Nielson would answer back for the Monarchs with his second goal. Late in the game Van Luven would score his third goal and Ira McNabb would score to make the final 9-4. Cupar outshot Lumsden 43-39. We will post a blog up before the weekend on the six games being played Friday and Saturday.
