President's Update - March 23rd, 2018

Bulldogs lead Robert Schultz Cup Final 2-0...The Bethune Bulldogs defeated the Raymore Rockets 6-2 in Bethune last Friday evening. On the following Tuesday evening in Raymore it took double overtime for the Bulldogs to win the second game 6-5. Game three is in Bethune on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. In game one. Mike Reich and Coltyn Sanderson scored early in the first period and those goals were followed by a goal from Michael Jordan and it was 2-1 Bulldogs after one period. In the second period Matt Delahey, Derek Fuchs and Carter Smith would score to give the Bulldogs a commanding 5-1 lead going into the third period. In the third period the teams traded goals with Matthew Kinnunen scoring on the power play and a goal coming from Drew George late in the period to make the final 6-2. Raymore was 1/5 on the power play and Bethune was 0/2. Ryan Holfeld stopped 28 shots for the win in the Bethune net and Dean Brothen stopped 38 shots in the Raymore net. On Tuesday evening Matthew Kinnunen put the first goal on the board but Bethune countered quickly on a goal from Coltyn Sanderson. Bethune would then take a 2-1 lead on a goal from Carter Smith. Braden Bentz would get the game tied with a goal with less than two minutes left in the period but the Bulldogs would take a 3-2 lead in the last minute on a goal from Derek Fuchs. Each team scored once in the second period with Braden Bentz getting his second of the evening on the power play and then Carter Smith scoring on the power play. In the third period Smith got his third goal of the evening early and the Bulldogs had a 5-3 lead. With just over eight minutes to play Tyler Bell would score on the power play to get the Rockets to within one goal. Braden Bentz would complete his hat trick with a goal with just over a minute left in the third period and this game would go to overtime. There was no scoring in the first ten minute overtime despite Raymore having three power plays and Bethune having one. 5;42 into the second overtime, all-star Carter Smith would score his fourth goal of the evening and the Bulldogs got out of town with a 2-0 lead in the series. Ryan Holfeld stopped 23 shots in the Bethune net and Dean Brothen stopped 54 shots in the Raymore net. Brothen has faced 104 shots in the first two games. Bethune had nine minor penalties and Raymore had four. Game three is Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in Bethune.

Provincials: The Bethune Bulldogs host the Rosetown Redwings at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday needing to win to force a game five in this "AAA" Provincial Championship series Saturday in Rosetown. The Bulldogs are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss last Sunday in Rosetown.
